How do I dispose of paints and chemicals?
Hazardous Waste (plus E-Waste) collection is held every year at the Tri-County Hazardous Waste & Recycling Program in Wasco. Contact the program to confirm your waste will be accepted.
Do you take people into Portland or Bend for medical appointments?
Sherman County Ambulance is used for emergencies only where individuals are taken to the nearest hospital. For rides to medical appointments, as well as to many other locations outside the local area, please contact Sherman Transit for scheduling details.
How do I run for office?
Contact the County Clerk’s Office to express your intent to run. The County Clerk can guide you through the process.
Am I eligible for the Veteran’s Choice Program?
If you are enrolled in VA medical care — and live in Gilliam, Sherman, or Wheeler counties — then you probably are. Email bhunt@ncesd.k12.or.us or call (541) 993-9144 to enroll in VA medical care and receive assistance signing up for Veteran’s Choice.
Where is the nearest VA hospital?
The nearest veterans’ hospital is the Portland VA Medical Center. There are also VA clinics in The Dalles and Bend. If you’re covered under the VA Choice Program, you may be able to go to the Mid-Columbia Medical Center, St. Charles Madras (formerly Mountain View Hospital), or most any civilian doctor.
Can I get hearing aids from the VA?
Possibly. You must have a service-connected hearing loss disability or be enrolled in Veterans Affairs medical care. Email bhunt@ncesd.k12.or.us or call (541) 993-9144 to enroll in VA medical care.
Can I rent the Sherman County Senior & Community Center building for an event?
You can! The best way is to come in or call and talk to the Senior Center manager to make sure the space you want is available. You’ll find the rental application online.
When is the Tri-County Veterans Service Officer “in office” at the Sherman County Senior & Community Center?
Every Wednesday from around 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., unless otherwise noted on the office door inside the center. The Veterans Service Officer can also be reached by phone or email during business hours throughout the week.
What day and time does the senior and community center in Moro serve lunch?
The Sherman County Senior & Community Center serves lunch at 12:00 noon Monday through Friday, unless closed for a holiday. Check-in for lunch begins around 11:30 a.m.
