General Statement of Responsibilities
Performs general groundskeeping and maintenance duties to assist with upkeep of the indoor/outdoor arenas and outdoor fair grounds.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Fair Board Chair.
Supervision Exercised
Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to temporary workers.
Examples of Duties – Essential Functions
1. Maintains fields and grassy areas by mowing, weed eating and ensuring water systems are in working order.
2. Assists with seasonal work including winterizing water pipes.
3. Utilizes tractor and appropriate implements to maintain arenas.
4. Performs general building maintenance and small repair work including painting and walkway repair.
5. Assists with general maintenance duties as needed during fair week, to ensure fair runs smoothly.
6. Attends meetings, trainings and conferences as assigned.
7. Follows all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
8. Maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with those encountered in the performance of duties; including employees, elected officials, other organizations, and the public.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Screening Criteria
Education and Experience:
• A High School Diploma or equivalent;
• AND One (1) year experience in grounds and/or general maintenance;
• OR any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Special Requirements/Licenses:
• A valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of employment and proof of an acceptable driving record are required.
• Pre-employment background check required.
Knowledge of: knowledge of general grounds/arena maintenance equipment including the proper operation and application of tractors, tractor implements, and hand tools.
Skills: Basic computer skills, preferably in Microsoft Office Suite® products; skilled in operating general maintenance and grounds maintenance equipment; customer service / interpersonal skills.
Ability to: Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; work independently with initiative, making decisions with sound judgment and reacting effectively in emergency situations; accurately maintain records; make independent decisions with general instructions and guidance, in accordance with established policies and procedures; serve the public, other internal and external personnel, organizations, executives and officials with tact and judgment.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for over half of the daily work period which is spent sitting while operating grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, blowers, tractors, hand tools, and ladders; and while driving. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 5 lbs. daily, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities, close vision ability, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to inclement weather, dust, or other similar environmental conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
The employee will be provided with and will utilize proper protective equipment, where recommended/required for compliance with county policy and OSHA standards, to include reflective vest, protective footwear, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hat.
